Participants should wear clothing they do not mind staining, and bring their own rubber gloves. Each participant will receive a Martin shaped gourd, approximately 6-7” in height and 5-6” in diameter. Plastic aprons and remaining equipment and supplies will be provided.
Participants may either free hand draw their design for their bird house, or use a stencil. Once the design is drawn, the artist will give instructions on how to burn the design onto the gourd. Once the design has been burned, if time permits, the participant will have a choice of using alcohol inks, alcohol markers or color pencils to color their bird house and make it as unique as they wish. This is a great way to brighten up your farm for our feathered friends, so we hope you will consider joining us!

About the Artist:
Regina Pena is originally from Pennsylvania. She fell in love with North Carolina while she was stationed here in the late 1980s. After the service, in 2009 she returned to NC, eventually settling in Creedmoor.
Like a lot people in 2020, she started a new hobby during the pandemic. Her love for pyrography blossomed into other art forms over the years. She burns on wood and other media. She has recently developed classes where she instruct students to burn on gourds, western style hats, handbags and baseball caps.
She also sculpts, and enjoys incorporating her hand building pieces into her wood and gourd art. She especially enjoys making functional art for the home and quirky animal art pieces. Regina tries to make art almost on a daily bases because it brightens her day.
